The "Good Intention" Trap

Bible for a Soul™ was established in 2025 by Ardean and Lori Veldkamp with a clear mission: to share a simple, yet profound tradition that transforms good intentions into a deeply rooted, life-giving habit of engaging with God’s Word.

Ardean and Lori have been married for over 44 years and have been blessed with 4 children and currently 17 grandchildren. For many years, we shared a common struggle: we had good intentions of spending time in God's Word, only to find those intentions fading away, leading to a sense of spiritual stagnation.

Then, around the year 2000, we discovered a powerful, specific practice: dedicating a new Bible each year to a specific person, committing not just to reading the scriptures, but also to journaling and praying specifically for that individual as we read.

How this simple shift turned a struggle into a lifelong habit, deepening their own faith, our personal relationship with each other, while blessing others.

This simple shift transformed our original good intention into a tangible, annual habit that has been instrumental in growing a deepening and more purposeful relationship with our Lord. Through this commitment, we don't just read the Bible; we consistently come to understand and experience the transformative power of the fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) in fresh, meaningful ways each year. It’s a practice that ensures your spiritual growth is intentional, measurable, and impactful, both for you and the person you pray for.
